“To love someone and to see their beauty, outer or inner, is only possible when they are really known. If I were asked what my art is ‘about’, I would say it is about beauty; the sudden starling beauty that absolutely anyone has when they are deeply known by someone else.”

“I am not interested in making a larger social or political statement, but instead am focused on the microcosm of a single human being. I research my subjects extensively and spend hours talking to and observing them before I even pick up a stick of charcoal or a paintbrush.”
