“I am absolutely convinced that at the heart of all things existing in this world, there is something very simple and pure which goes beyond the complexity of appearances. This purity by itself is powerful and beautiful.” Mikio Watanabe was born in Yokohama, Japan. After graduating from the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Tokyo in 1977, he left for Paris to perfect his mezzotint technique. He was admitted to the now famous Atelier 17 and continued to study engraving from 1979 to 1981. Mikio has dedicated his work to the mezzotint since 1981 and after over seventy one-man exhibitions; his work can now be found in public and private collections all over the world.
